Andrea qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has a Masters Degree in Law (Human Rights Law).
Before choosing to specialise in family law, Andrea practised in mental health becoming a Member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Review Tribunal representing clients detained under the Mental Health Act seeking discharge from detention or other improvements in their circumstances whilst detained. Andrea developed a particular interest in mental health and its impact on parents, particularly mothers, writing a paper as part of her LLM. She maintains an interest in mental health law and practice although no longer a member of the Law Society's accredited panel.
Andrea is an experienced solicitor, part of the family law team specialising in matrimonial/civil partnership matters, including finance matters and children law.
Recognised as a specialist, Andrea represents children, parents and extended family members in matters involving the local authority and private law proceedings under the Children Act. Andrea is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel.
Andrea aims to provide comprehensive practical legal advice and assistance to those facing a breakdown in their relationship and any issues surrounding future care of their children and the financial aspects arising from the relationship breakdown.
Andrea is known for her sensitivity, often advocating on behalf of vulnerable adults and older children.
In the 2025 Legal 500 directory, Andrea is ranked a Recommended Lawyer and it states "Matrimonial and child care specialist Andrea Dawkins is particularly experienced in mandates involving mental health elements."
Andrea has been ranked as a Recommended Lawyer in the 2024 UK Legal 500 directory, and it was quoted that ‘Andrea Dawkins is a very experienced child care lawyer and is lovely with her clients.’
