Venters Solicitors Proud to Support University of Surrey
Niche family law firm, Venters Solicitors are proud to be one of only two local law firms who have signed up to support the University of Surrey’s CLOCK scheme.
The CLOCK scheme which stands for ‘Community Legal Outreach Collaboration Keele’, which is where the scheme began, was pioneered to promote access to justice in the community. This unique and innovative project is a collaboration between universities, law firms, barrister chambers, mediators and charitable and court services who will all contribute their time on a pro-bono basis to educate, assist, monitor and promote access to justice in their local area.
CLOCK has recently partnered with the University of Surrey’s Law school Access to Justice Clinic to lead the CLOCK Community Legal Companion Service along with Surrey agencies and lawyers, to act as community legal companions for litigants in person accessing Surrey civil and family courts. Venters Solicitors are pleased to be a part of this innovative scheme. The partnership empowers the law students at Surrey University to run the cases that are given to them under the scheme, whilst being trained by the experienced lawyers at Venters and other local firms.
Reena Patel, Partner, recently presented to the law students at the University of Surrey on the topic of Legal Aid, and Partner, Helena Aiyudubia is presenting to the students on the 29th October on the subject of Fact Finding Hearings.
Reena says “Promoting access to justice is one of the core values of our firm so when given the opportunity to support the scheme and mentor the students, we were delighted to assist. The scheme not only allows us to share our expertise in family law and legal aid matters with the students, but this is another way for us to assist those vulnerable clients who may not otherwise be able to seek the legal support they need.”
The scheme focuses on providing access to justice in family law, divorce and separation, children's arrangements and protection, domestic and sexual violence, which are all core to the service offering that Venters provide from the Reigate office in Surrey.
